Why Photos Matter

Technology has made it possible to carry a camera with us everywhere. It’s in our pockets, purses, or backpacks. We can take a photo and have it within seconds, forever.

We take photos to document our lives. When we travel, an event or a special moment in our lives. This is one of the reasons I picked up a camera many years ago. A moment in time we may not even remember until we see the photo again.

Especially if you have kids, the years seem to fly by. But when we look back on a photograph of that time, it all comes rushing back. But, why do photos matter?

Photos Do Matter

Photos matter because of relationships and the memories matter. Take photos of people you love and care about. Get in the picture with your parents, children, siblings, and friends. Preserve the memories. Photos tell us stories-stories about love and even loss.

Our Legacy

My mom passed away when my boys were two. She waited a long time to be a grandparent. Her words “they feel a space in my heart that I never knew was empty”

When faced with cancer all she wanted was to be here for them. To watch them grow and be a part of their lives. One day returning from treatment with her, I asked “Is there anything you would like to do that you haven’t done in your life?” She responded, “I just want to see the boys go to kindergarten.” Being naive I said “Mom you will see them go to kindergarten. You are gonna beat this.” Little did I know she wouldn’t even see then to year three.

Preserve the Memories

Before her treatment started we had professional photos taken of our family together on the beach. Her favorite place to be. It is framed in my living room to this day.

The boys are now nine. We have an album that is out on the living room table as well. We look at these photos often and talk about how much she loved them. To keep her in their memory. Having photos makes this possible.

This is the reason photographs matter to me. I must say I have a greater appreciation for portraits and candid moments than I had before. I am thankful I have these photos of her and our family together.

As moms, we often are the ones taking the photos and not in them. We don’t always know what the future will bring and having these photos is important. Even when our hair is a mess and we may not look our best. It will not matter to the ones that love us. Having the photo will.

Life passes quickly. Photos can relive the most joyous times in our lives. Save the memories with beautiful photos of your family.
